What is a "work" and "author"?

Article 2 of the Copyright act provides the definition of “work” and “author”.

What is a “work”?
A work is “a production in which thoughts or sentiments are expressed in a creative way and which falls within the literary, scientific, artistic or musical domain”. Examples include novels and musical works.

What is an “author”?
An author is someone who “creates the work”. The writer who writes the novel, the composer, lyricist, or the music arranger who creates the music.
Article 2 (1) In this Act, the meanings of the terms listed in the following items shall be as prescribed respectively in those items:
(i) "work" means a production in which thoughts or sentiments are expressed in a creative way and which falls within the literary, scientific, artistic ormusical domain;
(ii) "author" means a person who creates the work;
